Installing the Mod

What Radiocraft needs, where to download it, and how to set it up with the official Minecraft Launcher or Prism Launcher.

What You Need

#

Radiocraft is a NeoForge mod for Minecraft: Java Edition. It does not run on Bedrock Edition, Fabric or Forge.

  • Minecraft 1.21.1: the version Radiocraft is built for and tested on.
  • NeoForge 21.1.72 or newer for 1.21.1. Use the latest 21.1 release.
  • Simple Voice Chat (Modrinth): required. You talk through the radios with your real voice, so Radiocraft will not load without it. Get the NeoForge build for 1.21.1.
  • GeckoLib (Modrinth): required. It draws some of the animated blocks, such as the satellite dish. Get the NeoForge build for 1.21.1.
  • Patchouli (Modrinth): optional, but recommended. It adds the in-game guide book that this wiki is made from.
  • Another Weather Mod (see its page): optional. Local, moving weather with wind, which Radiocraft's weather station, weather fax and APRS weather reports read.
  • Also optional: Curios (a belt slot for handhelds), Jade or The One Probe (SWR and readings when you look at a block), JEI (recipes), Create (the alternator) and Sable (ships).
  • Java 21: both launchers below install the right Java for you.

Older versions of Minecraft (1.19 and 1.20) only have early development builds. They are not supported.

Where to Download

#

Only download Radiocraft from these places. Other sites that re-upload mods may be out of date or unsafe.

  • Modrinth: the main home for releases. Prism Launcher can install from here directly.
  • GitHub Releases: every release, with its change notes. Download the radiocraft-neoforge-1.21.1-<version>.jar file under Assets, not the source code.
  • Discord: test builds of work in progress are shared here before they become releases. Expect bugs.

The file name tells you what it is for: radiocraft-neoforge-1.21.1-1.2.0.jar is Radiocraft 1.2.0, for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.

Official Launcher with NeoForge

#

The Minecraft Launcher from Mojang can run mods once NeoForge is installed into it.

  • Open the launcher and play 1.21.1 once without mods, then close the game. This downloads the files NeoForge needs.
  • Download the NeoForge installer for 1.21.1 from neoforged.net (the .jar for the newest 21.1 version).
  • Run the installer, choose Install client and press OK. If double clicking does nothing, install Java 21 first, or right click the file and open it with Java.
  • In the launcher, open Installations. A new NeoForge installation is now there. Edit it and give it its own Game directory, so these mods do not mix with your other worlds.
  • Launch it once and close the game. A mods folder appears in that game directory.
  • Put the Radiocraft, Simple Voice Chat and GeckoLib .jar files (and Patchouli, if you want the guide book) in the mods folder.
  • Launch the NeoForge installation again.

Prism Launcher

#

Prism Launcher is a free launcher that keeps each modded setup in its own instance and installs NeoForge for you. It is the easiest way to play Radiocraft.

  • Install Prism and sign in with your Microsoft account.
  • Click Add Instance, pick Minecraft 1.21.1, then under Mod loader choose NeoForge and the newest version. Press OK.
  • Select the instance and click Edit, then Mods → Download mods.
  • Search for Radiocraft and select it. Prism offers its required mods (Simple Voice Chat and GeckoLib); also add Patchouli. Press Review and confirm, then OK.
  • Close the window and press Launch.

To use a file from GitHub instead, drag the .jar onto the instance's Mods page, or use Add file.

To update later, open Mods and press Check for updates.

Playing on a Server

#

Every player and the server need the same version of Radiocraft and Simple Voice Chat.

  • Install a NeoForge 1.21.1 server: run the same NeoForge installer and choose Install server.
  • Put Radiocraft, Simple Voice Chat and GeckoLib in the server's mods folder. Patchouli is only needed on the server if you want players to be able to craft the guide book.
  • Simple Voice Chat uses its own port, UDP 24454 by default. Open or forward it as well as the normal game port, or nobody will hear each other.

Check It Worked

#
  • On the title screen, click Mods. RadioCraft and Simple Voice Chat should both be in the list.
  • In a world, look for the Radiocraft tab in the creative inventory, or type /radiocraft guide to get the guide book.
  • Press V to open the voice chat settings and check that your microphone works.
